All Smiles as Aggies Celebrate 60 Years

07 March 2011
St Agnes' passed a significant milestone this weekend, celebrating our 60th birthday in style at the Balmoral Hotel on Friday night. Last year's U-16 hurlers rightly took pride of place at the event, with guest of honour Nicky English presenting medals to the All County Champions. There were some repeat winners in the club's annual awards, with Declan McLarnon and Conor McLean sharing Hurler of the Year honours. Meanwhile Dermot Rooney deservedly scooped Club Person of the Year for his work on the Club Maith portfolio. Conor Kennedy took the South Antrim Footballer of the Year award along with Conor Caldwell, who also received the Senior Footballer of the Year prize.

The celebrations went into the wee small hours, with many mindful that the 'doo' didn't excuse them from club duty on Saturday! Club members didn't dissapoint, with a full squad of mentors turning out for Saturday morning coaching in Holy Child and Pairc Naomh Una. Later that afternoon, the senior hurlers finally clicked into gear as they have threatened to do so far this year. Chris McKee and returnee Sean Morgan were amongst the goals as Naomh Una saw off Gael Truacha from Monaghan to register their first points of the year in the Ulster Hurling League.

The footballers dutifully followed suit on Sunday recording a win at Sarsfields. First-half goals from Conor Kennedy and Declan McLarnon, and a third from Declan Crummey after the break took the Aggies home with several points to spare. The Aggies will begin their 2011 ACFL Division 4 campaign against Portglenone at Pairc Naomh Una.
